IMDb (identifier)
IMDb, originally known as the Internet Movie Database, is a comprehensive online platform that offers detailed information about films, TV shows, podcasts, home videos, video games, and streaming content. It features data on cast and crew members, personal biographies, plot summaries, trivia, user ratings, and both fan and critic reviews. Launched in 1990 as a fan-created database on the Usenet group "rec.arts.movies," it transitioned to the web in 1993. Since 1998, it has been operated by IMDb.com, Inc., a subsidiary of Amazon.
IMDb discontinued its message boards in February 2017. As of 2024, it ranked as the 51st most visited website globally according to Semrush. By March 2022, its database included approximately 10.1 million titles (including TV episodes), 11.5 million individual profiles, and 83 million registered users.
